From US Lacrosse

US Lacrosse today announced that 110 teams and organizations have been selected as recipients of 2015 First Stick Program grants. US Lacrosse will partner with these programs over the next two years to provide comprehensive resources, including equipment, US Lacrosse membership and coaches education training, to assist them in becoming self-sustaining programs that operate by US Lacrosse’s national standards and best practices.US-lacrosse1

Boys’ programs received 73 grant awards and girls’ programs were awarded 37 grants. The recipients represent 36 different states. This national US Lacrosse initiative is designed to assist new and developing youth and high school lacrosse teams nationwide.

“We congratulate each of these recipients because there was a very strong applicant pool once again and a very competitive selection process for the First Stick Program,” said Meghan Chaplick, senior manager for programs at US Lacrosse. “We look forward to partnering with these teams and organizations, and supporting them with developmental resources to help them become self-sustaining programs.”

Applicant groups are required to demonstrate a financial need and verify their status as a community based youth team or organization, or an elementary, middle or high school team in order to be considered. One of First Stick’s primary goals is to help break down the barriers to participation by providing free and/or discounted resources to new teams.

The First Stick Program is a US Lacrosse initiative supported by many of the nation’s leading manufacturers, distributors and retailers of lacrosse equipment. To see the full list of supporters, or to read more about the program, please visit uslacrosse.org/FirstStick.
